When handling your hamster, do not pick them up by the scruff of the kneck. Adult hamsters will usually protest being
handle like this and could even squirt urine. You should support your hamster by cupping your hands togeter making sure he/she can't
squirm out. Once your hamster gets used to you handling him/her, you may be able to hold your hamster in one hand.
Remember that closing the door to a room may not be enough to keep your hamster contained. An old towel can be used to
cover the opening at the bottom of the door to prevent your hamster from crawling under. If you allow your hamster to roam around a
closed room, be sure to hide any exposed wires that your hamster could gnaw on.
If your hamster bites, place him/her down as gently as possible. You don't want to react in a way that could seriously
hurt your pet. If the bite is serious enough to bleed, disinfect it with some iodine or some other disinfecting medication. If it swells
up, consult a doctor.
